Teaching & Learning Lab

Our Mission
The Teaching & Learning Lab (T&LL) is RISD’s hub for faculty conversation about and development of inclusive, assets-based, equity-focused pedagogies. We support faculty in the ongoing development of their pedagogical practice by promoting reflective and inclusive teaching techniques, fostering innovative approaches to curriculum development, and providing tools, reference materials, and resources faculty can use to address pressing issues in the classroom.
We offer interactive workshops and development opportunities, 1-on-1 mentoring and consultation sessions, and opportunities for cross-departmental dialogue on pedagogical topics. T&LL events can be proposed and led by any faculty member interested in sharing your practice or engaging in peer-to-peer conversation about teaching.

The Teaching and Learning Lab Spring '25 Faculty Fellow Jessina Leonard welcomes three artist-educators, Alan Huck, Jonathan Jackson, and Nadiya Nacorda, for a conversation about how we understand our role as art educators today. What is it exactly that we strive to do when we come together in the classroom? How do we define and model the role of the artist in an increasingly precipitous world? How do we structure our classrooms and critiques in light of this? Featuring a new generation of art educators, we will consider the beliefs, motivations, and models that we bring to our teaching practices.
The Teaching & Learning Lab was recently awarded a grant by the Davis Educational Foundation to expand its reach and capacity in advancing equitable access to learning and inclusive teaching strategies for RISD faculty and students.
