Fall 2025 Faculty Fellows Develop Tools and Conversation Frameworks for Equitable and Inclusive Critique

Two faculty fellows working on innovative and experimental techniques for more equitable and inclusive critique experiences join the Teaching & Learning Lab in Fall 2025.
Tyanna Buie, Associate Professor / Graduate Program Director of Printmaking
A native of Chicago and Milwaukee, Tyanna J. Buie received her BA from Western Illinois University and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She has been awarded numerous prestigious residencies, including at the Joan Mitchell Center (New Orleans, LA), Women’s Studio Workshop (Rosendale, NY), Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT), Project 1612 (Morton, IL), and Hotel Pupik (Schrattenberg, Austria). Meet with Tyanna
Sejin Hwang, Critic, Industrial Design
Sejin Hwang holds an MSc in Education from the University of Oxford and a BFA in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. In addition to teaching at RISD, she works as a design researcher in the education and e-commerce sectors, where she applies creative methodologies that integrate design and research. Her current research focuses on inclusive design critique and the development of cross-functional discussion tools for creative environments. She has published on decolonization and inclusivity in higher education critique, and remains committed to developing design education tools approachable and relevant for students. See full bio.
