T&LL awarded Davis Educational Foundation grant

The Teaching & Learning Lab was recently awarded a grant by the Davis Educational Foundation to expand its reach and capacity in advancing equitable access to learning and inclusive teaching strategies for RISD faculty and students. T&LL will use the grant to expand and diversify its programming, support communities of practice through new professional development opportunities for RISD faculty and develop a repository of shared materials for the broader community on priority areas including inclusive and effective critique and feedback and assets-based, equity-focused strategies for inclusive teaching and learning in art and design.
RISD recognizes that faculty development in equity-focused practices is essential for fostering an inclusive learning environment. The increasing diversity of RISD’s student body, including students of color, neurodivergent, first-generation-to-college, international, and students from marginalized backgrounds, along with the demand for equitable learning tools, highlights the need for professional development in these areas.
With support from the grant, the Teaching & Learning Lab, in collaboration with the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs, will launch a series of new faculty development opportunities, including a New Faculty Inclusive Pedagogy Seminar (NFIPS), Faculty Summer Institutes (FSIs), and Faculty Fellowships.
These initiatives aim to broaden faculty understanding and implementation of inclusive and effective critique, feedback, and review practices, and support faculty in expanding their teaching strategies through critical reflection, evidence-based best practices, and experimentation.
